Dirt 4 announcement signals a return to mainstream success for the muddy motor series
Until Dirt Rally, Codemasters’ series (which began life as Colin McRae Rally) had always straddled the line between arcade and sim. The cars had heft and were at the mercy of convincing physics, but they didn’t demand an encyclopedic knowledge of trail-braking and over steer. Dirt Rally, however, was the Dark Souls of racers – one small mistake saw you tumble into the void. You tried. Now Codemasters has announced Dirt 4, which will return the series to its more accessible roots, although the influence of its evil twin will be apparent as soon as you step on the accelerator.
