On 21st June, 2016, Hundreds of thousands across the globe observed Second International Yoga day and practiced the ancient Indian gift to the world. Observation of the International Yoga Day removed all barriers of caste, creed, gender, religion, nationalities and orientation.
PM Modi celebrated the second International Day of Yoga at Chandigarh, where he joined approximately 30,000 participants in a mass Yoga demonstration. While addressing the gathering at the iconic Capitol Complex, PM said that yoga has become the medium of connecting whole of India. He said that the world has come forward to support the idea of International Day of Yoga. He added that all sections of society too have come together in this endeavour.
He termed Yoga a zero budget insurance facility which provides health assurance without any added financial cost and does not discriminate between rich and poor.
The Prime Minister called for focus in the next one year, on how to mitigate diabetes through Yoga. He also announced to establish two awards, one at the national level, and the other at the international level.
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee observed the 2nd International Yoga Day Celebrations at Rashtrapati Bhavan with around 1000 persons participating in a mass Yoga event. Addressing participants, the President urged people to make the practice of Yoga an integral part of life.
The President also recalled that on December 11, 2014, the General Assembly of the United Nations approved by consensus a resolution co- sponsored by 177 countries to declare 21 June every year as International Day of Yoga.
Marking the second International Day of Yoga, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged everyone to embrace healthier choices and lifestyles and commit to unite with other human beings, regardless of ethnicity, faith, age, gender identity or sexual orientation.
