If You Really Got Me is the first thing that springs to mind when you think of The Kinks then fear not, you aren’t alone. The 1964 hit was an era defining track with that ‘torn speaker’ sound, crunching riff and ‘that’ solo – indeed for some it even heralds the arrival of the heavy metal age (the tale of Jimmy Page playing the famous solo is just that – if it were true though it would have been an incredible link between the 1960s and one of metal’s real pioneers).
