Kitsch is the new chic. Jeffrey Yan explores the rise of men’s jewellery that is playful, personal and decidedly unprecious

The Rise Of Men's Jewellery

The days of a watch and a wedding band being the only forms of jewellery acceptable for men are, thankfully, well and truly behind us. The mainstream fiction of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci aesthetic—embraced by everyone from Harry Styles to A$AP Rocky—has proven that men are as eager as women to peacock, if given the chance. While the popularity of men’s jewellery has been on a stratospheric rise the past few years, the category is now entering its next phase. This new era is defined by a pivot away from the seriousness and sophistication of luxe gold chains and diamond-encrusted pieces in favour of a playful look that is part grunge nonchalance, part child-like naïveté, and wholly laden with an IDGAF attitude. In short, less about glitz and more about quirk.
