As an adult, when we think of exercise we think of the gym, yoga and Zumba classes that need to be paid for. We squeeze in a half-hour jog, or that early morning yoga into our schedules to keep our bodies in top-notch shapes.
But kids are a whole different ball game. They are active energy fireballs that bounce off every wall in the house. Even worse now that they cannot go outside to play with friends and kick a ball around. So how do you tame and burn off the energy in a positive way? Involve them in your workout.
When it comes to exercising with kids, let them take charge of the exercise routines. It makes it more fun and gives them a sense of authority as opposed to you dictating their every move.
Here are ways you can tap into your inner child with your baby and have fun while burning calories.
HIIT (HIGH-INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING) - BUT MAKE IT FUN
Attempt each exercise for 30 seconds and rest for 10 sec. Try 4 sets of each exercise before proceeding to the next one.
1. Duck Walks
This takes me back to P.E (Physical Education) classes in Primary school. This workout targets the quads (front of thighs) muscles, glutes (bum muscles) and calves. Duck walks are strength enhancing exercises and are just as effective as squats and lunges.
What makes this exercise that much fun with your kids is you can turn this into a competition and have rewards for the winner. Also, the possibility of falling down is worth the laugh. You can also do this anywhere regardless of whether you have a large compound or are in an apartment.
