There was a time when weddings were traditional, family led affairs. Massive guest list and grandness of the celebration notwithstanding, the event itself was conducted on predictable lines at one of a handful of venues.

Weddings With Wanderlust

Since the new millennium began, however there has been a distinct shift in the approach to wedding organization. The marriage celebration has evolved into a well-choreographed and curated entertainment spectacle, an opera of sorts, in which everyone has a role to play. In India, with our rich, variegated cultural tapestry, the possibilities are endlessly magical. So we have ‘mehndi’ and ‘sangeet’ in South Indian weddings, ‘taalapoli’ ladies greeting the baraat in North Indian ones and so on and so forth. The idea is to have as much of a riot as possible, and no one’s complaining.

The biggest shift, however, has been in the venue itself. Giving short shrift to the conventional options - the traditional wedding hall, or the city’s finest star hotel - couples began to cart family and friends en masse to exotic destinations and turn their weddings into something like a luxury vacation.

Today, with destination weddings being the norm, the hunt is on seriously for that locale that matches the couple’s dreams, the family’s needs, and the expectations of friends and extended family. A Goa wedding at a beachside getaway no longer cuts it, no siree! Couples are now much more exacting in their demands for a locale to carry out their ‘saat phera’.

If you are looking to tie the knot and are likewise scouring the globe for that perfect vacation wedding destination, you may care to cast your eye over these options that we have specially curated for you.
