1 YOGA AND PILATES

THE RISK:
Myth—practising a minimal impact style like yoga or Pilates will not cause injury. Repetitive strain injuries due to faulty movement patterns are common. In yoga, knee pain is aggravated by padmasna, standing warrior poses, or crossed-leg poses. It is linked to a stiff back and restricted rotation and extension of the hip. In Pilates, lower-back pain is often caused due to bracing abdominal muscles (the core) around an already stiff back. Women also tend to initiate movements by bracing their head and neck muscles, causing acute neck strain.
