We received news about this watch with some surprise; it was not one of those shown at Watches & Wonders 2020. Like so many things this year, the reveal for the new Lange 1 Time Zone was a ‘Time Interrupted’ moment, but the watch itself is perfectly tied to the A. Lange & Söhne tradition, right down to the contemporary history of the manufacture.
While the original watch debuted in 2005, we last covered it quite recently (online) because a special version was released as part of the Glashütte manufacture’s 25th anniversary last year. This was another reason we did not expect to see an update to this watch quite so soon. In good A. Lange & Söhne style, the new watch does not only feature cosmetic changes. Yes, there is a new calibre to consider here, which is in-line with the brand’s philosophy of building new movements for new watches, where possible. Here, the innovation lies in calibre L141.1’s ability to take daylight savings time into consideration.
