Wait, what? Everything was okay yesterday and now... It’s over! How? Rejection hits you hard when it comes as a surprise. You’re not emotionally prepared and the resulting grief triggers the release of the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline, which can weaken or “stun” your heart muscle. Known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or broken-heart syndrome, this physical manifestation of grief can mimic the symptoms of a heart attack. In very rare cases, it can even result in death.
