Dramatic Effect

A musical director, the homeowner of this Lisburn abode has created an eclectic home interior that is a reflection of his own personal style.
Dramatic Effect

As the homeowner explains, ‘I originally bought the property 20 years ago because of the central location to everywhere I was working. After living there ten years I carried out major renovations when I changed the configuration and size of rooms, replaced the kitchen and bathroom, replaced all internal woodwork and doors, fitted a porcelain tiled floor to the entire downstairs and added a sunroom. At the time I used a very monochrome scheme when decorating. Ten years later I decided that I wanted to update and redesign the interiors to reflect both my personality and developing tastes, but also the trends that are very prevalent today.’

When it came to redesigning his home, the homeowner enlisted the services of an award-winning interior design studio on the Lisburn Road in Belfast. ‘I had several consultations with the interior designers where we talked about my vision for the property and how I wanted my home to reflect my personality and suit my lifestyle. Texture and color in music is very important to me as a musical director, and I wanted this mirrored in my interior choices. I love the juxtaposition of clashing fabrics and patterns, which create perfect harmony when used together. When deciding on the color scheme we used different jewel colors as the foundation of each room.

‘I wanted my home to be reminiscent of a boutique hotel or dramatic set, with each room telling its own story and creating its own ambiance and vibe. My interior designers introduced me to the work of Lorenzo Costello the Italian designer which I loved,’ adds the homeowner.

‘The starting point in the living room was a stunning Zoffany velvet material for the occasional chairs. Named Gondolier, it depicts scenes from Venice, and the rest of the room was designed with this material in mind,’ explains the homeowner.
