With the River Erne and Enniskillen Castle only a stone’s throw away, Columba and his wife Dawn couldn’t pass on the opportunity of purchasing this amazing property in the heart of Enniskillen in County Fermanagh.
When Columba purchased this waterfront property in October 2014 it had been on the market for some time and was in need of total refurbishment. ‘When I viewed the house I immediately saw its potential. It felt like walking into a caravan at the time and only the ground floor was being utilised with 1,600sq. ft of garage space on the lower level unused. I knew I could create a modern home that would see this house sit proudly in this prime location for many more years to come. Let’s say I wanted to bring a bit of The Hamptons to Enniskillen.’ While the US was his inspiration, Columba was determined to make this refurbishment an Irish cross border collaboration and from the build to much of the furnishing he has enlisted the help of talent throughout Ireland north and south.
When it came to the design and build Columba worked with Roci Allan, Allan•Curran•Architects Ltd who are based in Enniskillen and Donegal, and builder John Fox. The end result, including the roof which took ten months to get right, is both inspiring and functional, making the best use of the available space, while still remaining sympathetic to the surrounding area. Arriving at the front door with it’s porthole feature, you are immediately struck by the well-thought, contemporary design of this home’s exterior, and making your way into the large open-plan, kitchen, living, dining area you continue to be wowed by the picture perfect views commanded from the floor to ceiling sliding doors and windows positioned along the length of the river facing exterior wall.
