After living overseas for several years and renting a property in Jo’burg, the owners of this house finally decided to put down roots. “We loved the jacaranda-lined streets in Saxonwold and wanted to be near our friends and our children’s schools. My husband’s great-grandfather built a house here when the suburb was first established, so we also felt a connection to the area.” However, it took a while before they found the perfect property. “It was difficult to find a house with a good flow, but when we walked into this one, we just knew it worked.”

The previous owners had made practical structural changes and renovated the house with the help of architect Joe van Rooyen, so they could focus their budget and attention on the interior design. They have known interior designer Tanya de Waal of Salt and Light for many years, so they
