The Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy is helping aspiring sportspersons in Arunachal Pradesh realize their dreams.
Great athletes don’t just appear out from nowhere. Legends like, Leo Messi, P.T Usha, Saina Nehwal, and Mary Kom, mastered their skills at a professional sports academy, club or designated sporting institution before attaining fame. With a mission and vision to train players with potential, the Govt Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), Chimpu was founded to cater to the ever growing demand for quality sports in Arunachal Pradesh. Within SLSA’s picturesque campus - sports and education meet to create a new sporting culture through integrated programs.
First of Its Kind
Situated about 5 km from Itanagar, the Govt Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy offers the best in sports coaching combined with academics. The institution has gathered so much popularity that now boarders come from all the 22 districts to compete every year and secure a seat at this prestigious school.
Presently, the institution is run by 14 professional trainers and 8 dedicated teaching faculties, headed by a principal. When it comes to admissions, it is fairly competitive as the SLSA acceptance rate is 2 boys and 1 girl from each district. To enrol, a student must clear the physical and written test, apart from proving his/her sporting prowess at the district as well as the state level.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS
People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
