It’s easy to overlook the fact that Kalki Koechlin is, in fact, French. At Mehboob Studio on an oppressive April afternoon, Koechlin waltzes in like a summer breeze, sporting messy bangs and a certain je ne sais quoi that French women seem to innately carry. Her laid-back ease on the set, and unrestrained laughter (I realise I run the risk of sounding like a groupie here) – are infectious. She exudes effortless elegance, styled in minimal whites, her lips stained just a dab.

The music floating on the set is a playlist of romantic French tunes – courtesy Koechlin – transporting us to a corner cafe on a narrow, cobbled street, with the whiff of flaky, butter-filled croissants wafting in the air. You can almost taste them.
