Once associated with only high jewellery and women’s dazzling timepieces, Bulgari has upped the ante with its aggressive foray into fine watchmaking for men. This is evident with the launch of the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater—the thinnest minute repeater in the market, as the brand claims. We caught up with Guido Terreni, managing director, Bulgari, at Baselworld this year, to talk about this feat and the brand’s approach to haute horlogerie.
In which markets do you think the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater will be most successful?
The Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater is not meant for a particular market because reactions from our clients worldwide are spectacular. It is the aesthetics and technique combined that have found favour with buyers from different markets.
How is it different from other minute repeaters in the market?
When you look at the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater, it is very different from the minute repeaters in the industry, which are usually conventional. I would associate them with my grandfather’s watch and not what a man would wear today. Contemporary design along with durability is what we offer so that it can be worn even 30 years from now. Also, it is ultra-light as it is made in titanium, so it can be worn everyday, unlike other minute repeaters in the market with bulky designs. The sound is clean, warm, and it’s on the right tempo and intensity throughout the whole chime. These four characteristics are very difficult to achieve and it takes three weeks just to get the right sound.
