With technical excellence and a unique design aesthetic, Audemars Piguet continues to stand out in the world of haute horlogerie.
The dawn of the industrial revolution was in 1875. That was also when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet set out to make their mark in the world of haute horlogerie. They would do so by developing complications that appeal to the vanguards of a new age: engineers, entrepreneurs, and those who embraced technological advancement as a demonstration of human intelligence.
An innovative spirit with a reverence for craftsmanship would become the cornerstone of the maison. The timehonoured art of openworking – one of the manufacture’s signatures showcased in its Grande Complication – is a fine example.
The craftsman first bores minuscule holes into the components to be carved. The thin blade of a miniature handsaw is then inserted and the piece is meticulously hollowed out to reveal a skeletal, lattice-like beauty. Each component then gets its angles polished, satin-polished and finished.
