After nurturing a baby for nine months, a woman’s body goes through several physical changes. While some of these changes go away fairly quickly after childbirth, others may linger for a long time, or even end up being permanent. We take a look at some of the changes you can expect, and how to cope with them:

You experience weight gain

If you’ve got that postpartum “mum pouch” that just refuses to go away, you may have diastasis recti (a separation of the abdominal walls). This is a common condition experienced by women who have had kids, and while it usually takes the uterus around six to eight weeks to return to its normal size, this stubborn belly bulge is more than that. A sensible diet and targeted exercises can help: Talk to an experienced trainer about diastasis recti exercises to try at home.

Your vagina may stretch and change in appearance
