DEER ISLE—A capital campaign launched this summer geared toward improvements to the island schools appears to be drawing mixed reactions, according to several CSD 13 board members at a meeting on October 1.

Board Chairman Jane Osborne, as well as other members on the board, said their sense is that people have been “relatively quiet” about it, which Osborne said could mean one of two things.

“My sense is there are two types of silence; disinterest and the people who don’t want to say they aren’t interested,” she said.

Osborne added that some of the comments she has heard are that people are “getting tired” of being asked for money.
