STONINGTON—Representatives of Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety were on the Stonington Fish Pier on Friday, November 8, with lifejackets and wetsuits heavily discounted to local fishermen.

The pair, Erin Lally and Mandy Roome, were also there the day before and on November 11 to not only provide fishermen with safety equipment but also to raise added awareness about the importance of flotation devices.

“We really want to increase safety and wearer rates,” said Lally. “It’s important to wear [lifejackets] both on the skiff and on the boats while working. If you go overboard you have a better chance at being saved if you’re floating.”
