We Need To Kick Up A Stink About Raw Sea Sewage

As I donned the swimsuit and got the kids into the car to head down to our beloved Dollymount this week, the news broke that swimming was prohibited on the North Dublin beach.

Shock horror, there was no way I was going to risk me or the girls getting a mouthful of raw sewage.

Swimming bans were in place there, as well as at Sandymount and Portmarnock, after a bit of flooding.

It’s as if every summer, Dublin beaches are closed down due to a waste system that has never worked properly.

A spot of heavy rain meant raw sewage was leaked from the Ringsend wastewater plant and we’re supposed to nod and accept this.

Our sea is being pumped with poo and we just carry on regardless. We need to get real about sewage – it’s human waste, yes, it needs to go somewhere, but why dump it in the sea when there are other proven ways to get rid of it.
