Brat In The Making?
Parents World|Issue 72

No parent wants to raise a spoilt brat. Here’s what to look out for and tips to nip the problem in the bud, so your kid will learn to be on their best behaviour.

Brat In The Making?

Being faced with the realization that you might be raising a brat is never a fun thing. Whether it’s at the department store while your little monster is having a meltdown because you say you won’t buy him that shiny new toy, or at a family gathering when you realize with horror that your child is throwing a fit because he is not getting any attention – neither are fun circumstances to find yourself in.

Although it’s a perfectly normal stage of development for toddlers to throw a tantrum from time to time, there does come a time when you have to admit that perhaps your little one is not as angelic as you’d like to believe. It can be difficult but learning to catch the warning signs and taking steps to teach them to do better is a far greater gift to our little ones than just letting them continue down this slippery slope. It might feel like they’re too young to understand, but there’s no doubt that they’re watching and learning from your reactions.

Frequent Fits

The number one sign that your child might be a spoilt brat is if you notice the tantrums becoming too constant. While you might expect your munchkins to have temper tantrums that simply need to run their course from time to time, having your child throw a fit every time you set a limit or tell them they can’t have something is a tell-tale sign you need to sit up and start managing the situation.
