Journey, Grow, and Rise Together
Feast Magazine|February 2020
Our marriage vows aren’t just words we recite during the wedding ceremony. We vowed to love our partners for better or for worse. The vow doesn’t end on your honeymoon, but it starts there. They’re easy to keep when you’re both happy and things are going well. But how do you maintain that kilig with your spouse when you’re in your worse moments? We realized that getting married and staying married are two different things. To stay married, you have to remember to stick together for better or for worse.
Journey, Grow, and Rise Together

The following are three lessons we learned during those times that I (Dreus) was caring for my sick mom. Love and I had to journey together, grow together, and rise together.

Journey Together

There are couples who are not aware of each other’s concerns. You may not bring home your problems at work, but does your spouse know what troubles you in the office? There are spouses who feel that their partner is no longer part of their journey because they fail to communicate what they’re going through. They may be dealing with financial or health issues on their own or feel that they’re raising the family single handedly.

So do you journey together as a couple? Just because you’re not the one earning doesn’t mean you’re no longer involved in your finances. How about the way you spend? Does it honor the hard work of your spouse? Or you could be the breadwinner and think you can do anything you want with your income. Again, are you journeying together? Each spouse has his or her own way of helping the other. Support, encouragement, delegations of tasks, and responsibilities all need to be communicated and agreed upon.
