Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

In our homes, the place where the lamp is lit is always kept clean. When we keep our surroundings clean and bright, our consciousness also attracts the same energy. That’s why it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi enters only clean houses. We must have heard the proverb, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

A few days ago, a lady was telling me that her daughter had a lot of questions about why at all a lamp should be lit every day. She confessed that she could not give her daughter a proper answer since she only knew that it was an old tradition.

Now the question arises! How do we explain these things to our children? Why is it considered auspicious?

There are so many scientific reasons. Ghee lamps purify and cleanse the atmosphere. Some scented candles emit positive benefits when lit. Lavender is soothing and is known to calm the mind. Sesame oil cleanses and purifies.

As we we light the lamp, we chant:

Shubham karoti kalyanam arogyam

dana sampadah

Shatru buddhi vinashaya Deepa jyoti namostuteh
