Fraser Valley Nationals
PULL Magazine|June 2019

New bikes, new teams, riders in new jerseys. You can definitely feel the buzz and excitement in the atmosphere of the big red barn.

Fraser Valley Nationals

Spring is often defined as the season of new beginnings. Vegetation begins to appear, and depending where in the great white north you’re located, the snowmelt begins, or the rain starts to fall to bring new life to flowers, cherry blossoms that line many of southwest BC’s streets. Spring also brings something extra special to us BMX Racer’s, the lead off event for the 2019 BMX Canada National Series. Reconnecting once again, riders, parents, families and friends convene for three days of nothing but BMX goodness. Every year I take great pleasure in seeing friends from all over US and Canada, exchanging hello’s, smiles, and fist bumps.

Billy, Scott, Woody and the rest of the build crew created a beautiful track for us this year. A wider bucket on his loader enabled Billy to create more spacious straights, with deeply banked corners, which would evidently lead to some fantastic racing, especially down the third and final straights.

This years event wear, and trophy decals paid special tribute to Aidan Webber who we sadly lost this year. To commemorate him, there was a beautiful moment of silence for our beloved fellow BMX’er. A silent lap was run as announcer Chris Johnson narrated a beautiful race eulogy to the crowd. It was a beautiful heartfelt moment and I’m certain he was cheering on all the riders this weekend.

GOLD CUP NORTH CENTRAL

If there is one good thing about this year’s Covid closures of states and counties, it is that tracks that might not normally have gotten a shot at hosting a National or Gold Cup event, were now given that opportunity.

When you roll into the local Quiktrip and one of Tucson’s finest looks at your shirt and asks if you know Corben Sharrah, you can only be in one city in America. Often coined as the loudest city in BMX, it doesn’t matter if there is a single fan or a gaggle of Tucsonans, they know how to bring the energy.

GOLD CUP NORTHEAST

With all of the uncertainty in event planning this year, it was not a huge surprise that the DK Bicycles North East Gold Cup Finals shifted locations somewhat last minute. We were very lucky to have it and at a great location, Akron BMX in Akron, Ohio. The Big Red Truck was last here for the 2018 North East Gold Cup Finals, and the track is located in a pretty incredible location.
