THE INJURED RUNNER DISHES OUT KUDOS FROM THE CYBER SIDELINES.

- Kim Penstone

Anti Social

RUNNING USED TO BE A SOLO ACTIVITY, involving just you and the road. That was before apps like Strava, and the health insurance companies that started rewarding ‘healthy’ people for hitting their fitness goals, made it everyone’s business. Nowadays, you can’t even cook post-run scrambled eggs without the whole world knowing about it.

Running – and cycling, swimming, skiing, stand-up paddle boarding, and whatever else you can think of that raises your heart rate (I’ll leave that one to your imagination) – is an event that’s worthy of not only a thumbs-up from all 97 of your closest friends, but even a comment or two from that chap who started stalking you after you had a polite conversation in the queue for the porta-loos at that half marathon in the back of beyond.
