Stay Fit... Anywhere!

“During lockdown, I was restricted to my small duplex apartment. I have no back garden and no treadmill. How do I go about keeping fit should lockdown re-occur?” — Sophie
Stay Fit... Anywhere!

In his How Or Why series, Sean Tait, founder and Running technique coach at Off the Mark, helps you clear your trail running hurdles in the form of a detailed feature in every issue.

Before we dive into the specifics of the COVID-19 challenges, I recommend that you read TRAIL 31’s article, titled How to Train for Mountains in the Flatlands.

There are a lot of great suggestions in there surrounding training restrictions which may work for your lockdown constraints, but will not work for Sophie in her apartment.

In this article, I will deal more specifically with what Sophie has at her disposal.

These are unprecedented times. There are certainly bigger problems in the world than our fitness levels, but this is a running magazine and running is the only thing I know all too much about. Let’s entertain this idea with a narrow mind and pretend that running is everything for a few minutes.

Also note that this was written three weeks into lockdown and that by the time you read this, the state of play will have changed. Regardless, this article can help you stay fit at home when the days are too short to run before and after work, or when the weather doesn't allow you to visit your favourite trails.

The takeaway from our TRAIL 31 article was to look at what you can do, and not focus on the things you can’t. Obviously the things we can’t do are endless, but the best thing about lockdown is that we will not be having any visitors.
