With the 2020 NFL season just a short pass away, it is time to break down the strengths and weaknesses of this roster. Every team in the NFL will hold meetings with their college scouts to go over where the roster is projected to need the most help. While the scouts’ job will still revolve around the big picture and getting a look at every possible prospect, there is likely to be extra attention put on specific positions. The top five positions of need I project the Giants to be hungry for in the spring of 2021 are edge, cornerback, wide receiver, center, and linebacker. Let’s take a deeper look at these position groups and introduce some of the 2020 seniors that will be discussed plenty between now and next April.
EDGE
This could be termed as “defensive end” or “outside linebacker” but because of the hybrid scheme we expect to see with this new defensive staff, let’s keep it broader. The Giants did not address this position during the 2020 draft (unless you consider 7th rounder hybrid inside-out linebacker Carter Coughlin “addressing”), but they were able to bring back Markus Golden on an economic one-year deal. He will lead a group full of unproven youngsters in Oshane Ximines, Lorenzo Carter, and the rookie Coughlin. The other veteran in the mix is Kyler Fackrell, who is also signed to just a one-year deal. Simply put, the veterans along this group aren’t signed beyond the 2020 season and the young guns still have a lot to prove. This is not a position for any defense to be weak.
