As you drive north from Ceres, up, up, and up into the Groot Winterhoek Mountains, you see fewer and fewer side roads off the R303, and wilderness starts to take over from fruit farms. GlenDonald is at the end of one of those rare sides roads, deep in a gorge, and you can feel the week's irritations slipping away as you park your car on a Friday afternoon and unpack your bag.
There are two cottages built of stone next to the upper course of the Olifants River. In front is a deep, clear pool called Visgat, a beautiful willow tree, a braai, and a view (pictured top left).
