Scandi Spring Skiing

Don’t panic about a late Easter scuppering your family ski plans – just head north for a fantastic snowy break, says Emma Lewis

Scandi Spring Skiing

‘Woof, woof-woof, woof!’ The voices of excitable huskies ring out in the cold, crisp air, almost masking the sound of our sled’s runners slicing through the pristine snow as the dogs shoot off at top speed and my husband Lyndon struggles to keep the dogs under control from his mushing position at the back of the sled. I try to relax, bundled up under a blanket, reclined in the sled as the beautiful wilderness scenery rushes by. Soon, as the dogs calm down a little and we whizz along through the trees, round bends and up and down dips, I steal a glance at the sled behind, where our two daughters, Imogen (6) and Scarlett (4), are wedged in like to peas in a pod, and see pure exhilaration on their faces!

It’s day two of our Easter ski trip to Trysil (pronounced ‘Treesill’) in Norway with Crystal Holidays, and the conditions couldn’t be better: uninterrupted blue skies and fresh snow from a dump that has fallen over the previous two days – it really doesn’t feel like getting on for mid April! We’re just a short drive from our self-catering apartment in the ski-in, ski-out Radisson Blu Mountain Resort & Residences, which sits atmospherically on its own up the mountain, nestled amongst the snowy slopes. It’s just perfect for our needs, and the self-catering element keeps the cost down, as yes – the rumours are true – Norway is expensive for eating out.
