Modern money

Search for an app to help you spend, save and track your cash and you’ll find there are literally thousands on the market. So how do you know which ones are worthwhile – and trustworthy?

Victoria Devine is a financial planner, the creator of personal finance podcast She’s On The Money, and an app connoisseur who has road-tested every app in the Top 20 budgeting apps in The App Store.

“I love apps that put you in a better financial position where you’re able to see your finances more clearly or you’re able to save money,” Victoria says.

But, on the flip side, she’s wary of those that aren’t what they seem. To help us sort the good from the bad, Victoria reveals her favourites.

Earn

Apps like Cashrewards and ShopBack give you money back when you make a purchase online with a partner retailer. Woolworths, David Jones, Apple, Myer, booking.com and ASOS are among the brands that offer a discount when you purchase through the apps.

“I adore ShopBack. I work with them, and shop through them. You get money back for literally shopping through their app,” Victoria says.
