Don't Hit the Ceiling, Hit the Table!

It may be good manners to be polite but medically it's not good sense! Keep calm and don’t lose your tempers are some of the world's most dangerous words," explains Dr W.E. Boothroyd, an expert on mental stress. “If you're human, you will get angry — and you should."

Medical science is now inclined to believe that bottling up of violent emotion can do far more harm than an occasional explosion of rage. But – and this is the vital point – you should get your anger over quickly for prolonged anger can play havoc with your health.

Anger is inescapable. Its roots are deep. It can be repressed — sometimes. It can be expunged — never, it’s a part of us from birth.

Tests have revealed just what happens when we get angry. From the moment one upsets us, arteries narrow, blood pressure rises, palms sweat, muscles tense, teeth clench and breathing quickens.

Blood rushes away from stomach muscles and towards those that can execute fighting commands. Suddenly, there is new strength in hands, arms, shoulders, and legs. The excesses to which anger will drive people have been many and surprising. For instance, in an election, a politician inaugurated his political career by biting an opponent in reprisal for an irritating remark!
