NO-ONE'S DONE OPEL ANY FAVOURS over the past few decades. Much loved in this country for high-quality hatchbacks that were nippy and eye-catching, the performance of both its engines and its design teams had sadly slid into play-itsafe mediocrity. When last were you excited by an Opel? Well, I'm happy to say that's all about to change with the brand-new Opel Mokka.
Opel calls it "Vizor" design, and it first debuted a couple of years ago in the GT X Experimental concept car.
With an exterior characterised by angular bodywork and clean lines, the Vizor grille is this design DNA's signature move - it features slim L-shaped LEDs that frame the edges and highlight the protruding wheel arches.
Those headlamps are part of another key element in the design: the Opel Compass. The L-shaped LEDS form the horizontal plane, with the centre-crease line on the ZIN bonnet representing the vertical axis - both of which intersect at a new execution of Opel's iconic lightningbolt brand logo that's front and centre on the grille.
