Performance testing of small stock: Part 1

Performance testing is based on the measurements of key economic traits. These measurements, says WJ Olivier of the Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute, are used to generate phenotypic indices or the estimation of breeding values.

The aim of a performance testing plan for a breed is to create a recordkeeping system and increase production and reproduction efficiency.

Performance testing can be divided into three parts:
