FLYING TO PURSUE CONTINUES EVEN WHEN THE WORLD WAS SHUTDOWN

As Indians, we love sports and athletics with all our hearts; Indian Premier League is basically like a new festival in the country. Apart from mainstream sport, Cricket, the past decades have seen a rise of athletes bringing glory home in various events and competitions. Listening to names like Mary Kom, Milkha Singh, P.T Usha, and Neeraj Chopra fills every Indian with pride. But under the limelight of these victories, we often fail to give due credit to the Paralympians who spend years struggling to make the country proud despite being specially abled.

Behind every medal we see an athlete win, there’s a story that can motivate millions. With a population of 1.3 billion, India is home to inspiring personalities that are the pride of this nation.

One of them is Ahmedabad-based Paralympian Meet Haresh Tadhani, who has participated in various national and international games and won the gold medal in 100 m men during the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games.

Every story we see in the movies about the protagonist one day rising to the occasion and winning the race of life isn’t complete; the constant need to fit into the everyday world and beat the rest while struggling with the unique ability takes years, sometimes a lifetime. Diagnosed with Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO) at 12, Meet struggled with his eyesight. As per the doctors, it is a disease that leads to improper blood flow to the eye, affecting the retinal imaging capacity. From the everyday struggle of seeing the chalkboard in school to being an international para champion, Meet is the nation's pride.
