The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall braved the heatwave on a tour of the West Country last week. And while they had fun in the sun and the rain that followed, Charles took the opportunity to speak out on the urgency of tackling climate change.
The trip came just days after Camilla celebrated her 75th birthday and it marked 70 years since Charles became the Duke of Cornwall, on the Queen’s accession to the throne in 1952.
The royal couple started their tour in Mousehole, near Penzance, where they visited community groups and greeted excited locals who had turned out to see them. Camilla, who was dressed in a chic powder blue linen dress, shielded herself from the sun with an elegant parasol, while Charles, 73, looked dapper in a light grey suit and striped tie.
But despite the soaring temperatures, Camilla joked with locals that it was nothing compared to London, saying, “This is very cool here. It’s stifling in London. I’m using my parasol. I think I’m going to take off like Mary Poppins.”
