With award season in full swing, stars of both the small and big screen descended on the blue carpet for the glitzy 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.
While there was no official host for the evening, which took place at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday 24 February, two-time SAG Award winner Idris Elba opened the show in his usual charismatic style.
And what an opening it was, with Luther star Idris leaving viewers in stitches during the first segment of the ceremony. Announcing that the winners could swear in the acceptance speeches, thanks to the ceremony being broadcast on Netflix and not mainstream TV, he then advised the stars “not to say anything they wouldn’t say in front of Oprah”. The camera then panned to an amused Oprah Winfrey herself, with Idris then announcing, “F**k! That was Oprah!”
But before any on-stage gags took place, the best in the business showed off their impeccable sense of style, with stars such as Elizabeth Debicki, Reese Witherspoon, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Penélope Cruz and Halle Bailey wowing with their ensembles.
Margot Robbie arrived at the star-studded event in a black and hot pink mini dress, once again channelling her Barbie character as she hoped to bag some gongs for playing the eponymous role. While it did secure her a nomination for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role In A Motion Picture, the Australian star was pipped by Lily Gladstone, who was awarded the accolade for her role in Killers Of The Flower Moon.
