Baldur's Gate 3 rewards sideways thinking and encourages you to try out new ideas

You’ve probably heard a lot of good things about Baldur’s Gate 3. Well, after more than 200 hours of gameplay, we can tell you that the hype is entirely justified. It may well be the best game ever released on the Mac.

The story begins with your character held captive on a mind flayer ship. These monstrous creatures capture innocents of all races and insert a carnivorous ‘tadpole’ into their heads, which eventually consumes their brains and transforms them into other mind flayers. After you make a dramatic escape, you team up with other infected unfortunates on a quest to free yourselves from the parasites.

It’s a journey that takes you across three incredible acts, each of which could easily be its own standalone adventure game. There are hundreds of hours of content, all of it deep, engaging and incredibly fun. All the way through, your choices truly matter, and roleplaying your character often leads to buffs and unique dialogue options. Some of your choices have effects that aren’t fully realised until dozens of hours later.
