GAUTENG'S LESSER-KNOWN AIRFIELDS

Nestled in the heart of Ekurhuleni, the Brakpan Aero Club has its home at the BrakpanBenoni airfield and has a history dating back to its establishment in 1928. Central to the Brakpan, Benoni, Springs, Boksburg metro, this airfield is well situated for business people visiting the East Rand area. At a distance of only 17 kilometres from OR Tambo International Airport, the location of the airfield provides a central point for the transfer of local flights.

The beautifully renovated clubhouse boasts a restaurant, lounge, pub and outside braai area.

With a view onto the apron and runway, this airfield is a dream for any aviation enthusiast.

The tarred runway is 1440 metres long, excluding the 180-metre stop-ways at both ends and headings of 18/36. There are presently three flight schools at the airport, jointly training some 120 new pilots per year. Many commercial and air transport pilots are also trained here and quite a number of airline captains undertook their training at Brakpan airfield.

The airfield has two AMOs on the airfield as well as availability of Avgas and Jet A1. With all the hustle and bustle of ongoing training and business conducted at the airfield, Brakpan Airfield is still a place where families can gather under the trees and enjoy the sights and sounds of the airfield while enjoying a hearty breakfast from the restaurant or a braai on a weekend. After some flying action, it is a great place to spend time with flying friends. The Airfield has 24-hour security and medical assistance if needed.

Maputo airshow 2024 What a treat!

On Sunday 16 June Christine and I returned from attending the Maputo airshow and what a fantastic experience this was not only for estimated 15 000 spectators, but also the members of the media present. As always Brian Emmenis and his team were on top form with a great selection of music. The grand finale with the Puma Energy Flying Lions T6 Harvards was simply beautiful and I saw several spectators with tears in their eyes as they expressed their happiness for the airshow.
