KMCH Performs a Rare Uterus Tumour Surgery

In a rare surgical feat at Kovai Medical Center and Hospital, the abnormal growth of uterus was successfully tumour removed in a single-stage operation that lasted 5 hours. A 53-year-old woman had a tumour of her uterus which extended along her blood vessels and into the heart.

 The team of doctors who performed the rare surgery are Dr. Prasanth Vaidyanath, cardiac surgeon and Dr. Firoz Rajan, cancer surgeon. They were supported by an anaesthetist team led by Dr. Kappian as well as cardiologist Dr. Lawrance Jesuraj. The patient was presented to the emergency department in a life-threatening condition with severe breathlessness due to the tumour filling up the right side of the heart affecting the flow into the lungs and oxygenation. She was provided with all emergency supportive care and taken up for detailed imaging
