In the heart of a prestigious neighbourhood in Toronto, Canada, a townhouse built in 2008 has been reimagined into a serene retreat that merges natural beauty with urban sophistication. Working with the homeowner (an empty nester seeking a fresh new look for her forever home) interior designer Gillian Gillies took on the challenge of a substantial renovation across the home's three upper floors. The result is a layered, immersive space that feels both tranquil and elegant, balancing the home's central location with a sense of nature, thanks to its ravine views.
Gillian, originally from Edinburgh, was granted near-total creative freedom by her client, a privilege that led to an exquisite fusion of fresh design choices and timeless elegance. 'We had a lot of fun and I pushed the boundaries a bit,' recalls Gillian. 'The design turned out to be fresh, understated and elegant-perfectly reflecting my client's style.'
