From Mickey Mouse to theme parks, movies, production studios Marvel) and a successful streaming service Disney+), Disney is a part of most everyday lives and people want to show their enthusiasm for the brand through their collections.
DISNEY DOLLARS
Disney has leveraged the incredible popularity of its television shows and movies by making it easy to find places to purchase officially licensed products of all manner of descriptions clothes, jewelry, stuffed characters, toys, videos, as well as coins, medals and other collectibles.
The earliest item that is now considered a collectible wasn't originally intended to be one. In 1987, Disney Dollars-were sold by the Walt Disney Company which were redeemable for goods or services at many Disney stores and all of their amusement parks. These Disney Dollars were modeled after U.S. paper money as it was similar in size and style but bore images of Disney characters instead of United States presidents or statesmen. These dollars featured portraits of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Disneyland or Walt Disney World.
By 2016, as the trend moved toward cashless transactions, these Disney Dollars were no longer being printed and sold. Despite that, they can still be used as currency in Disney stores and theme parks. They have also gained in collectible value. Today, many currency collectors buy them, and even a major grading service, Paper Money Guaranty PMG), will authenticate, certify, and grade these bills and encapsulate them in their holders.
