Why Creatine Is Causing Such a Stir
Chatelaine (English)|Fall 2024
Like protein powder before it, creatineoften used by bodybuilders-is going mainstream. As it turns out, it has lots of potential benefits, even if you don't use "bench" as a verb.

Why Creatine Is Causing Such a Stir

WHAT IS CREATINE AND WHAT CAN IT DO?

Creatine is an organic acid-similar to an amino acid, which makes up protein. Our bodies produce creatine; it's also found in animal-based foods, like red meat and seafood, as well as in supplements. Creatine is most commonly sold as a powder (which you can mix into water or sprinkle over food), but it can also be taken as a pill.

In combination with weight training, adding creatine to your diet or taking it as a supplement has been shown in study after study to improve muscle mass and strength.

Just Roll With It

I AM DEEPLY OPPOSED TO DESSERTS that are fussy in preparation or decoration and lacking in taste payoff. But a yule log, also known as a bûche de Noël, is as spectacular to eat as it is to look at. This airy, cream-stuffed sponge cake is hands-down my favourite holiday dessert. (Ask anyone who has ever been to my house in December!) A glossy ganache bark, a handful of sugared cranberries and a few sprigs of rosemary make this seasonal stunner look like it came from a fancy bakery, but it's actually totally doable at home.
