Amid the serene beaches and vibrant culture of Goa, a new sports hero emerged-Gaurang Amdekar.
Recently securing second place at the prestigious World Kettlebell Sport Federation (WKSF) 2024 Championship in Poland, Gaurang's journey is a testament to relentless determination and passion. Kettlebell sport, a demanding discipline that requires athletes to perform continuous lifts like the clean and jerk for up to 30 minutes, tests the very limits of endurance, strength, and technique. The WKSF represents the pinnacle of this challenging sport, and Gaurang's ascent to the top ranks showcases his extraordinary dedication.
From his roots in Mumbai to his transformative life in Goa, Gaurang Amdekar's story is one of grit, sacrifice, and triumph on the global stage.
Born and raised in Mumbai, Gaurang completed his schooling at Chogle High School in Borivali East and graduated with a B.Sc. from ML Dahanukar College.
Although sports were not a prominent part of his school and college life, his foray into fitness began early, thanks to his father's encouragement. In the 11th grade, Gaurang's father, late Mr. Sudhir Amdekar, insisted he join a gym.
This marked the start of a lifelong commitment to fitness. "From that point on, I have been consistent every single day," he recalls. His dedication saw him transition from a gym enthusiast to a competitive bodybuilder, participating in various competitions from 2014 to 2019.
The COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 was a turning point for Gaurang.
