Find out where designers, models and fashionistas stay during Fashion Week

HAUTE HOTELS

When it comes to style, good taste doesn’t stop at clothes and accessories—it also means having an eye and appreciation for beautiful spaces and exceptional design. So it comes as no surprise that when Fashion Week comes to Paris, Milan, London and New York, the jet-set fashion crowd know which are the cities’ most stylish hotels— or, should we say, hautels?

From suites designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld— fitted with original sinks from the Palace of Versailles, no less—to a suite housed in the former office of Winston Churchill, these are the five-star properties where designers, models and fashionistas choose to stay.

NEW YORK

THE CARLYLE The Carlyle is something of a legend. Since it opened in 1930, it has welcomed everyone from royalty to A-list stars to Hollywood misfits, who fall in love with the hotel’s charm and reputation for discretion. Once upon a time, Jackie “O” and Audrey Hepburn were spotted having a heart-to-heart in the lobby. The late Anthony Bourdain called it “completely nuts” in the best way possible. Rumour has it there was even a hidden entrance to facilitate Marilyn Monroe’s secret rendezvous with John F Kennedy. When I visited The Carlyle in 2019, Stella McCartney was sitting at the table beside me enjoying afternoon tea in The Gallery.

Long story short, anything can happen at The Carlyle.

It’s also the place for celebrity sightings during the Met Gala. The Carlyle’s monochrome marble lobby comes alive as the likes of Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Margot Robbie, Kendall Jenner, Naomi Campbell and a seemingly endless parade of fashion royalty emerge in their Monday best. Naturally, the same goes for New York Fashion Week.
