Wendy Albright, 33
Parking outside the shopping centre, I scrolled on my phone.
I hate buying clothes, I thought, delaying going in.
Then I noticed a post online for a gorgeous cockatoo named Sweet Pea. My heart broke when I read she was looking for her fourth home.
I already had two feathered friends that were like family. We'd even cuddle on the lounge!
Why not one more? I figured. Shopping can wait.
Before I knew it, I was pulling up to meet her.
Sweet Pea nuzzled straight into me and didn't leave my side.
Noticing lots of feathers missing from her chest and a damaged left wing, I knew something had been causing her stress.
Bringing Sweet Pea home, my partner, Scott, smiled.
'Another feathered child?' he asked.
'She's just going to be here for a while,' I giggled, but I already knew she'd be staying with us for good.
