The 70-20-10 budget

Our household budget has become a little wobbly in the lead up to our wedding.

You might recall me saying in a previous column that my fiancé Shannon and I are having a bare-bones wedding - no flowers, no photographer, no reception. But there are still expenses, such as wedding rings and the celebrant, that have to be covered.

On payday, we were putting a set amount of money into a savings account, but a few days later we'd have to dip into it for one thing or another.

This system just wasn't working for us.

So we decided to try the 70-20-10 budgeting plan and, so far, it's working well.
