New boss calls for hardened response after Ardley's axe

HINSH'S YORK HAVE NO FEAR

NEW York City boss Adam Hinshelwood has promised to bring no-fear football to the LNER Stadium.

The 40-year-old former Brighton defender joined the Minstermen on Wednesday after six-and-a-half hugely successful years at Worthing.

He replaces Neal Ardley, who was sacked on Monday after a four-game winless run left York 20th in the National League.

Ardley promised attractive football on his arrival in September, but later admitted that he lacked the personnel to put his ideas into practice. More recently, he complained that too many of his players were inhibited by fear.

But Hinshelwood – whose swashbuckling Worthing side have scored 269 league goals since the beginning of the 2021-22 campaign – insists his free-flowing philosophy will take root.

Principles

“I’m not here to criticise anyone,” says Hinshelwood, whose son Jack currently plays in the Premier League for Brighton.

“Neal had his way of playing. I’ve got mine, and I play that way because I think it gets results on the pitch.
