THIS was not a statement win like Liverpool's romp against Leicester was on Boxing Day 2019 on their way to the title but it is still priceless.

Whereas Liverpool turned on the style at the King Power five years ago to roast Leicester 4-0, this was a victory down to their grit and determination.

The Reds showed resilience as they dug out the victory on a foggy night when everything seemed against them.

Arne Slot's men knew they were handed a glorious chance by Chelsea's defeat and they seized it to open up a seven-point lead at the top.

Liverpool also have a game in hand on Chelsea as they chase a record-equalling 20th crown.

Leicester, though, sensed an upset when they scored an early opener, partly through some sloppy defending, and they initially soaked up everything the hosts threw at them. Liverpool were below their best and hit too many aimless balls into the opposition box.
