POTHOLE compensation claims to councils doubled in a year yet just 15% made last year resulted in payouts, research has revealed.
Some 20,432 claims were submitted to 18 local authorities with the largest road networks in 2023, compared with 8,327 in 2022.
Despite the huge rise in year-on-year claims, 17 councils paid out just 15% of the claims submitted by drivers.
