BRENDAN IS SITTING ON GOAL MINE

PAUL LAMBERT knows David Turnbull played for Motherwell as he did before joining Celtic. Knows that he wears the No.14 shirt as he did a quarter of a century ago.

But the similarities end there, and not Lambert insists, because he also captained his country and has a Champions League winners' medal with Borussia Dortmund.

"Nothing to do with that," Lambert laughed. "David's a far better goalscorer than I was from the middle of the park. He's got one over on me in that respect."

Lambert lives down south but his interest in Celtic's fortunes is undiminished by distance and he has noticed with interest that the return of Brendan Rodgers has seen an upturn in Turnbull's fortunes at Parkhead.

And as his former team heads on a potentially difficult mission to Lanarkshire at lunchtime on Saturday, he's hoping the ex-Well star's renaissance can continue.

From being a bit-part man under Ange Postecoglou, Turnbull has started five of the eight games played by the Hoops this season, scoring three goals.

"I've always thought David has goals in him and having a goal threat from midfield is always a real asset to any team, Lambert told Record Sport.
